A study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine by some epidemiologists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that kids who suffered 6 or more “adverse childhood experiences” had lives that were on average 19 years shorter than kids who didn't have such a bad time. They assume the chemical stressors build up and cause various diseases and health problems later in life.
